Our youth sides participated in three Northern California Youth Rugby Association's (NCYRA's) Summer Seven's Series in Dixon, and one Pleasanton Seven's Invitational. We played well throughout the summer at all levels, and showed the rest of Northern California rugby that although we were a smaller club from the South Bay, we were a club to be reckoned with.
The highlight of SVRFC's summer was our Under 10 (U10) program. Our U10's showed a lot of heart in NCYRA's Seven's Championship weekend. They were a small team composed of youngsters with a variety of experience: 5 years of rugby, to the first summer of rugby. All the lads played that day with the heart of a 30 year veteran.
They came out on the top of "easier" pool play at mid-day, moving on to the elimination rounds. In a closely fought match with Danville's open side (open weight), our young ruggers prevailed and moved on to the Championship Match. A big strong San Mateo open side came out fast and fierce, defeating our boys in a very physical match. It was a hard loss for the young lads, but a great learning experience and it was wonderful for the coaches and families to see the progress the kids had made since the beginning of the summer. Many of this summer's U10 side will move up to U12s. We're excited to see what will come of them in the future. Eagles (or Irish, French or Mexican Nationals) in the 2024 Olympics?
We can't wait for the winter season! Register soon, and we'll see you on the pitch!
